A year ago, Borderless Arts Tennessee coordinated a project under the artistic direction of Dee Kimbrell to create a piece of art that represented the Antikythera Mechanism that was found off the coast of Greece. The piece was to be given to the island of Samos as a gesture of appreciation. Greece was our first international art exchange partner and we have continued to host programs with them through the years. We did this project as one of the 20th anniversary celebration activities for Borderless Arts.
The project received support from:
The Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy US Chapter, DeeGee Lester. This organization arranged to get the art to Greece and arranged for the informational panels.
Christina Tsardoulias Malagaris, a dancer on Samos, with whom our organization has worked in the past. She provided the connection with the Vice Governor of Samos and presented the art
Kostas Stephanopoulos with GdStudios for the design of the lovely text panels
Xenophon Moussas for providing text in both Greek and English
On Saturday, April 29, 2023, Christina presented the art to the Vice Governor. She selected this day as it is the International Day of Dance.
Christina stated “In honor of the event, Christina Tsardoulias and Magdalini Theosidou of Samos School of Dance presented the artwork to Mr. Vasilis Panourakis, Regional Vice Governor of Samos where he has it proudly displayed in his office next to his desk.
Mr. Panourakis was moved by the text of Xenophon Moussas written on the panels highlighting the philosophy and fundamentals of Samos’ rich history. These principles are what unite the art communities of Tennessee and Samos.
He presented to us and you a recent publication of Samian archives by Mr. Christos Landros from the Greek Revolution of 1821.”
The press release that was sent out in the region stated:
