VSA Tennessee will be celebrating the United Nation’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Thursday, Nov. 30 from 6-8pm at the Sumner County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, 2310 Nashville Pike, Gallatin.
This event will include performances & exhibitions by people with disabilities, food, and a presentation to the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Since 1992, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been celebrated annually around the world. VSA TN has been celebrating this event since 2015 and our inclusion in the global celebration has received recognition by the John F Kennedy Center and the United Nations.
This year, VSA TN is inviting Community Leaders to get involved with this celebration. The request is this:
1) The Community leader will agree to draw a “Creative Critter” that is at least 10” tall (it can be taller).
2) The Community leader can draw this “critter” completely on his/her own. However, we will be providing a “menu” guide of sample eyes, body shapes, etc that the individual can select from and use to draw the critter.
3) The critter portrait should be returned to VSA TN no later than August 24. The critters can be scanned and emailed to userk7706@comcast.net or they can be mailed to VSA TN, 1210 Lake Rise Place, Gallatin TN 37066.
On Sept. 9, a group of approximately individuals with disabilities with Project 22 will get together and bring the critters to life under the artistic direction of Dee Kimbrell by making them into 3-Dimensional beings. The groups of individuals will work in groups of 5 people per critter to learn skills of teamwork, making an item from a pattern, and elements of creating a 3-dimensional product.
We would like for the community leader to be present at the event on Nov 30 as the 3-dimensional piece of art will be presented to them at that time.
We are looking for 5 community leaders to participate. Please let us know if you will be a Creative Critter.
