All workshops and performances will take place at the Nashville Children’s Theater

Young adults with disabilities will work to create and perform with shadow puppets to tell 5-minute versions of fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen. These stories will be presented in a showcase for family and friends prior to one of the theatre’s public performance of Hans Christian Andersen, one the professional productions in their 2019-2020 Season.

Puppet Building: a team of 10 young adults with disabilities will meet for two, two-hour sessions with two theatre production teaching artists to create shadow puppets to help tell the selected stories. They will learn about the materials and tools that can be used to create sturdy shadow puppets, and will learn and practice techniques for manufacturing shadow puppets

Puppet Actors: a team of 10 young adults with disabilities will meet for two, two-hour sessions with two theatre performance teaching artists to stage the stories using the puppets created during the construction workshops. They will learn and practice techniques for shadow puppet performance, as well as how to work as part of a team to make a shadow puppet performance successful.
