Borderless Arts Tennessee does many things of which I am proud of and honored to be a part. Those who know me also know that Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) has a very special place in my heart and that teaching and my students have always been a passion of mine. Therefore, yesterday was a special day when my two jobs/passions came together to honor a country that means so much to me and my favorite time in history (WWII).
The day began with a special Memorial Service and Borderless Arts Tennessee Young Soloist Tyler Samuel using her beautiful voice to sing the National Anthem.
The service was fascinating as speakers discussed MTSU’s Veteran service, especially in WWII. Two unique stories were shared and the morning was simply delightful.
The audience was invited to view the art in the lobby area outside the auditorium that Borderless Arts Tennessee participants have made through the year….as well as the cardboard jeep.
The festivities continued at “The Grove” where Bill Allen a 99-year-old Veteran at Normandy received a special award. There were displays, an encampment, music and special guests.
Then our attention was turned to the football game. An MTSU drone delivered the game ball. The drone and the game ball carried the art created by Borderless Arts Tennessee participant A.j. Boyd and MTSU student Lia Richey.
The Borderless Dance Community under the artistic direction of Jennifer James presented a portion of the dance that they performed in Belgium.
It was quite a day.
